Conventional NDT

Foundational NDT Methods for Structural Safety and Quality Assurance

At SCANSTAR, our Conventional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services form the foundation of dependable, accurate, and cost-effective inspection programs. These techniques are the backbone of industrial quality control, trusted across sectors such as oil & gas, power generation, aerospace, and manufacturing. By using methods like Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Penetrant Testing, and more, we help clients detect surface and internal defects, assess material condition, and ensure structural integrity, all while keeping assets fully operational. These time-tested techniques allow for early flaw detection, reducing the risk of failure, extending equipment life, and helping you stay compliant with international standards, without damaging or altering the components being inspected.

UT – Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws such as cracks, voids, and delamination in materials. It is ideal for weld inspection, corrosion mapping, and thickness measurement. Our certified technicians interpret the data in real-time to ensure your components meet the required safety standards.

UTG – Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

UTG measures material thickness from one side, helping identify corrosion, erosion, and wall thinning in pipelines, tanks, and pressure vessels. It's a fast, reliable way to monitor your asset's health without shutting down operations.

MT – Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) detects surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials like steel and iron. By applying magnetic fields and iron particles, even fine flaws are made visible. It’s commonly used for welds, forgings, and castings.

PT – Penetrant Testing

Also known as Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), this method exposes surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials. The penetrant seeps into cracks, which are then highlighted using a developer. It’s a simple yet effective way to ensure surface quality.

PMI – Positive Material Identification

PMI ensures the correct alloy is used in your components by analyzing their chemical composition. Our portable XRF analyzers give fast, on-site verification — essential for weld procedures, fabrication, and regulatory compliance.

Portable Hardness Testing

This method evaluates material strength and hardness on-site without cutting samples. It’s essential for assessing weld quality, heat-treated parts, and wear resistance during fabrication or in-service inspection.
